An article from “Tuoi Tre” (Youth) newspaper about the event “Knowledge Present”
Hearts of the youth
The path leading to the suburban district was rough and hard. So dilapidated and temporary were scattered cottages that as if the wind could blow them out. Except for some old disordered cookers, there were no household tools. The children were in bare feet, thin clothes.

The young man Nguyen Ba Son (a member of Vietnamese Youth Volunteer) was really haunted by these images, after a practical trip in Simacai (a suburban district that has just been separated from Lao Cai province). He was really touched so he together with the group decided to take action. Then the event that collected books, studying stuffs named “The gift of knowledge” was born.
“Only knowledge that is a key to all the doors leading to a better life”- The northern group leader said. Each member of the group has become an active propagandist in his/her own class, school, family and street. They distributed flyers and received a lot of feedbacks in considerable support of their friends and family.
VYV has extended acting methods in order to draw more attention. Lenin Park on every Sunday morning became the gathering point of benevolent hearts. Right on the first day, the group gained an unbelievable result. A myriad of students came to contribute books. Ha Phuong- a second-year student from Institute of Journalism and Propagation (On Xuan Thuy Street, Cau Giay dist, Hanoi) brought some legendary books that she took loving care of during her childhood.
In the heat of summer days in Hanoi, the group of 4 was still eager with cumbersome bags. They were the group of students: Bui Van Hi. Nguyen Thi Thu Hai, Nguyen Thi Thu Hien and Tran Ngoc Trung. They were students in Hanoi who spent free time “delivering” happiness to children in remote areas. They collected clothes, toys through charity activities. In only a few days, the four received 5 quintals of toys and clothes. These amounts were separated and packaged to present poor communes of 2 provinces: Ha Tay and Hoa Binh.
“Poor and handicapped children are starved of both physical and spiritual worlds. They need sympathy and distribution. Even a very tiny gift is huge happiness to them. We only play an intermediary role in connecting benevolent hearts voluntarily coming to them in this summer”- a young person said.
